Node-edge diagrams of networks have a long tradition which goes back at least to the works by Ramon Llull (1232-1315 A.C.) and is nowadays mostly encompassed in the graph drawing knowledge field. Implemented network layouts are currently lacking in JavaScript mainly because the language is relatively recent, but also because network science is in fast development and the best visualization solutions are not evident. In this presentation, we will understand the graph layout algorithms implemented for ccNetViz, which comprise the largest collection of network layout routines for JavaScript, as far as we know. Their design is very straightforward, favoring use in any project: nodes and edges are input and thereafter the nodes are annotated with x and y positions. We will then discuss possible enhancements, the implementation of other canonical and novel layout algorithms, the consideration of d3.js, WebGL and emscripten for features and optimizations, and possibilities of rendering the layout algorithms as a useful standalone software package.
